Outdoor Room in Farmington
On this project I was hired to design an outdoor space as an addition to the house. The upper patio includes a fire place, a built in spa and a grilling area. The upper space opens up to a lower patio at ground level. The upper pavilion structure is not built yet but the concrete footings and walls are designed to accept a pavilion structure in the future. The challenge was to incorporate these many features into a relatively small space and still have it be as functional as possible. I made a set of drawings for each step in the process.
After permits were aquired, the first step was to demolish the existing raised patio and dispose of the debris. Then, we excavated the site and installed poured concrete footings and walls.
Then the backfilled soil was compacted and the site was ready for our masons to come in. They constructed the sitting walls, fire place and grill structure on top of the concrete walls and then applied the stone veneer. Custom coping was cut to order and delivered to the site. We installed the stone veneer and coping on the built-in spa as well to match the rest of the project.
After the masonry and spa were complete we installed all of the horizontal surfaces and steps. A travertine paving material was chosen by the client and installed with a custom cut curved Hampton Limestone step to tie in with the wall coping. As a final step, we installed plantings, lighting and sod to finish off the yard.

CLIENT COMMENTS
"We didn't want to let too much time pass before writing to you. We are so pleased with the patio and have already used it many times in the past few weeks. We always had a nice retreat in the woods - but now we are actually USING the space to read, cook and relax. Your team was a pleasure to work with on the project. Dave kept everything moving and we felt very well informed throughout the build. He went above and beyond to make sure that our property was well cared for and that the patio ultimately fit our vision. Jimmy was the other key component to the team. He is an extremely hard worker that was very dedicated to the project and easily served as our onsite contact when Dave was unavailable. We cannot compliment either of them enough! From the beginning, we have loved your vision for this project and we hope to work with you again in the future. Thank you for creating our new backyard oasis! It's perfect." Read more comments
