Rocky Hill Living Space Expansion

This project was built at a brand new house.  After seeing us working in the neighborhood, this homeowner hired me to come up with a concept for a patio that utilized the new deck with the possibility of converting it into a screened in porch at a later time.  The problem was the fact that the lawn slopes across the property and the deck was quite a bit higher than the lawn on one side.  This meant we needed to build a wall to elevate the low side- which also helps balance it visually. 

I decided to change the location of the steps from the corner to the middle of the deck to make for better use of deck space and traffic flow onto the patio.  In doing so, I decreased the number of steps needed by elevating the level of the new patio.  Once on the patio, the upper level patio doubles as a dining area and a grilling area.  One step down from the grill level and around to the backside of it lies the fire pit area.  This little trick creates a bar height counter top without needing a split level counter.  This layout also places the person grilling in the center of all the areas.
