Backyard Transformation in Rocky Hill

This project was based on a design for another poolscape the client saw on this website!  While perusing my website one night, the client recognized that another poolscape construction project I had done in Bolton, CT would fit very well into his own yard.  We made a few changes to some areas and added some other features, but overall the main areas and elevations were almost exactly the same. 

The main idea here was to elevate the pool above the main patio level by about two feet so that the wall behind the pool would not have to be so high.  We basically terraced the pool into the slope.  By implementing this method, we eliminated the amount of fill that had to be trucked off site and also added some character to the yard.  An extensive drainage system was installed to deal with runoff from the patios, roof gutters and the retaining wall drains.

One of the neatest features here is the built in grilling/bar area.  The idea for it comes from the fact that the door at the back of the house is about 5 steps above the elevation of the patio.  Instead of building a landing with a tall staircase, I basically stretched the stairs apart to include a mid-level grilling area.  As you can see, this makes using the grill extremely convenient.  The countertop then doubles as a bar from the other side which is also the dining area.  Once it was built, the client saw how useful this grilling area would be, he decided to add the roof structure to cover the grill.
