Backyard Getaway in Farmington

This well thought out project started with the desire to have a spacious pool area. Ordinarily, a pool would be located behind the home but a desire to keep the wooded area behind the home for privacy, focused the attention for this new pool area to the empty lot next door.  The lot was already cleared and already functioning as the kid’s play yard- so it just made sense.  After the lot was purchased, I went to work on a plan.  I moved the pool and pool house away from the main house to create the feeling of space, but then included a modest family area near the back of the house for convenience. 

The rear patio includes features the client might want on an average week night without having to go all the way over to the pool.  Once at the pool area however, the space opens up to include another fire pit, lounging areas, spa area and pool house to anchor the back drop. 

The architecture of the pool and pool house was designed to exactly match the style and appearance of the main house.  The pool house has a kitchenette, bathroom and changing room on one side and a storage area on the other.  The pool equipment is hidden on the side and the lawn mower in driven inside through a rear overhead door. 

Significant grading and a boulder retaining wall was needed to keep the elevations around the pool reasonable and evergreen screening was installed to enhance the privacy of the pool area.  Other hidden features in this yard include a 16 speaker sound system and a 68 fixture lighting system including a lit up tree canopy.  Being out there at night is quite impressive to say the least! 

The client loves the fact that their yard has become the attraction that everyone comes to- instead of their children going to friend’s houses.  This family of five will certainly get their use out of this back yard paradise over the years.
